I have two pieces of artwork, one of which is attributed to a fairly well-known artist. I would like an appraisal on them. I do not have any information on the back of the paintings or a certificate of authenticity. I am unsure of the age of the paintings, but I know one artist is fairly well known. What additional information or steps should I take to get an accurate appraisal?

I have an oil painting by Montreal artist Danvil, dated around 1951. It is in excellent condition with a certificate of authenticity on the back, signed by Danvil. The shop name on the sticker is MORENCY. I am trying to find out more about the painter and the value of the painting. Is there a registry of painters, and do you recognize the artist?

I have an old heavy silver ice bucket with claw feet. It has old English letters K S and maybe H on the bottom, as well as a symbol resembling a jellyfish. It was left to us by my husband's mother, and we want to know if it is something we should keep and if it is worth anything. The ice bucket is in good condition and also includes tongs and a lid attached by a swivel handle.
