I purchased a new control board for my washing machine and have forgotten which plug to use for the plug coming from the water temp and water level knobs. On the board, there is a red and a black connector, and the plug fits into either one. Which one should I use?

Had a pot of water boil over on a gas range and now the power is off on the range. The light inside doesn't work, neither does the clock, and the igniter doesn't work. The breaker is not tripped, and it's not plugged into a GFCI. What could be the issue and how can I fix it?
