My GE trash compactor, model #GCG1520F0BB, has an issue where the ram does not reverse direction after compacting, staying at the bottom and making a loud noise. When turned off and back on, it goes back up without noise and stops at the top as it should. I recently replaced the directional switch (Whirlpool 777811), but the top limit switch is working fine. What could be causing this problem?

Replaced the lid lock switch on a Maytag MVWC555DW washer (coil was open). Now the lid will not lock. Checked coil resistance and it's OK. The washer won't run auto diagnostics and must be stepped through manually. The lid lock light won't come on and the lid won't lock during the test. The lid lock light flashed before replacing the burned-out switch. Diagnostic codes say the lid won't lock and won't unlock. What could be the issue?
