My Maytag Centennial Ecoconserve washing machine is stuck 'sensing' the load after putting in several wet, heavy towels. The machine either locks, senses, adds a bit of water, and then unlocks, or it remains stuck in the sensing phase. What could be causing this issue and how can I troubleshoot it?

I have a Maytag Bravos XL washer. During the spin cycle, it went out of balance and gave an LF code. I tried the rinse and spin cycle separately, but it stops with an LF code. Unplugging the washer for a day didn't help. What should I do to troubleshoot?
