My Whirlpool washer does not keep going on the cycle unless I stick the end of a letter opener in the hole where the lid protruding plastic piece goes in. When I stick this in and even leave the lid up, it works fine. What could be the issue and what should I do?

We have a Maytag Neptune 6700A Dryer. About 4 months ago, the electronic board went out and was replaced. Recently, the dryer started to dry a load, paused briefly, restarted, and then stopped. The display appears, but when the selector button is pressed to start it, all that is heard is a 'click' and it won't start. Unplugging and plugging it back in did not help. What could be the issue and what steps can be taken to resolve it?

I have a Whirlpool Quiet Partner II washing machine that will wash for a few minutes and then the normal light starts rapidly flashing, preventing further operation. The control panel and keypad have already been replaced, as well as the thermal fuse. What else could be causing this problem?
