Our Whirlpool model WRT318FZDM02 refrigerator has issues with temperature control. When the freezer temperature is set lower, ice cream melts, and when it's set one level up, items in the back of the refrigerator freeze. This has been ongoing for months, and a repair person previously suggested reducing the freezer temperature, but this only worsened the issue. Is there a way to fix this known problem with the model, or should we just live with it?

I can’t get the ice maker out of the freezer. The left tab released but the right one will not. The red light is flashing and then goes solid when I push the left side flap. What should I do to remove the ice maker and troubleshoot why it's not working?
