The water won't drain after the rinse cycle on my Kenmore Ultra Fabric Care Heavy Duty 90 Series washer (Model 110. 92291100). I had to slowly turn the dial to different spots to get it to drain and spin. This is the first time this has happened. What could be the issue and how can I fix it?

We just came back to our winter home and can't get our Maytag MDBH979SAB1 dishwasher to start. It did this last year, and we were able to get instructions on how to start, but we can't remember what they were. We can get yellow lights for normal and dry, but the start button won't do anything. We push the drain button, and it goes through that cycle. What should we do to resolve this issue?
