I purchased a Dell XPS 8950 approximately 9 months ago, equipped with an i7 12700 processor, 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, a GTX 3060 graphics card, 2TB memory (1 SSD and 1 HDD), and a Creative Labs AE-9 sound card, but it only came with a 350 watt Dell Power Supply. Based on various articles, I believed I needed a more powerful power supply. I contacted Dell and was advised that their higher-powered units were out of stock. I then asked if I could safely install a 1000 watt power supply from the market, specifically the Silverstone Technology SX1000 Platinum 80 Plus 1000 watt compact fully modular SFX-L Power Supply. Dell said it would work, but after installation, it burned out a circuit in my motherboard. The Dell technician replaced the motherboard and stated that only Dell-made power supplies should be used due to proprietary voltage regulators. Is this accurate, and can you provide clarity on whether my current 350 watt power supply is sufficient?
