My daughter has a Gateway NV53 laptop, model MS 2285, which has no image or sound, only the fan noise. I tried resetting the power by disconnecting the power cord, removing the battery, and holding the power button for 30 seconds, which worked temporarily but the issue returned. I also tried testing the memory by removing and reconnecting the RAM sticks, connecting a desktop monitor, and pressing Fn with the monitor icon key, but nothing worked. The laptop is 3 years old. What could be causing this issue and what can I do to fix it?

I installed Norton and did a full computer scan, which resulted in a black screen message saying 'no bootable device...install boot disk and press any key.' I don't have a boot disk and my computer did not come with one. Additionally, after installing Windows 8, I ran a scan that created a 'Removed Apps' folder on my desktop. How can I resolve the boot issue and restore the removed apps?
