On Windows 7, right-clicking on desktop icons for programs like Internet Explorer or Firefox does not open the programs. The right-click menu appears, but selecting 'Open' does nothing. How can this issue be resolved?

I cannot get internet connection on my desktop running Windows XP, but I can on my laptop. I have recently installed Net Protect Plus antivirus from BT Yahoo, using McAfee. I am using a wireless connection with a BT HomeHub 2, but have an Ethernet cable from the desktop to the hub. I have disabled both the firewall and McAfee antivirus, but still cannot access the web on my desktop. The internet was working before but stopped in the middle of a subscription. What could be the issue?

I bought Microsoft Office Professional 2007 a year ago and had to change my operating system due to issues with Vista. Now, I can't download Office again and it doesn't go through. Additionally, after installing Office, it disappeared after a system restart. I also have issues restoring files from a stick drive using Norton. What can I do to resolve these issues?
