I just adopted a 9-year-old lab mix named Lou. The vet has identified an abscess or ulcer on his eye, which seems to be worsening despite treatment with Tobramycin eye drops every 8 hours for three weeks. The vet mentioned an ablation procedure but suggested a specialist might handle it better. My concerns are: Could this problem become serious, painful, and result in the loss of Lou's eye? Is the ablation procedure risky and typically used as a last-ditch effort?
