I have a 12-year-old Rot/Lab mix dog who is 100 lbs and arthritic. She has been moving slower and is very lethargic. I can't take her to the vet due to her size. Her toenails are very long, and I'm afraid to cut them. Could her long toenails affect her activity and arthritis? Is there anything I can do to make her more comfortable?

The long toenails can cause some pain and discomfort, which might contribute to her reduced activity...

My Shiba is whining, walking around, and trying to lie down but getting back up quickly. She's been like this for about 12 hours and I suspect it might be related to a heat cycle or a change in diet (she was given canned wet food for the first time). She's 1 year old, not spayed, and had a heat cycle about 3-4 months ago. What could be causing her discomfort and what should I do?

My dog scratches excessively, bites different areas of his body until it bleeds, and his hair gets pulled out as a result. We have given him flea baths and medicines but could not see fleas or ticks on him. We put a cone around his head to slow him down, but he still rolls on the ground until his back is raw and irritated again. What could be causing this and what treatments or tests should we consider?

My 12-year-old Siberian Husky, living in the tropics, has slowed down considerably and developed breathing problems, including stopping to suck in air while exercising. Blood tests showed elevated white blood cells and liver enzymes, and her heart rate is very slow. Heartworm has been ruled out. What could be causing these issues, and what can be done to help her?

My dog ate a 6-inch piece of shoe leather from one of my sandals. I'm not sure if he chewed it up and ate it, swallowed it whole, or if I just can't find it. Should I make my dog throw up, and if so, how?

We have an 11-month-old mixed breed dog with recurring diarrhea every 2-3 weeks for the last 8 weeks. The symptoms have progressively worsened, and he has started scratching excessively, especially behind his ears. He eats Purina One Healthy Puppy Formula, has not had any new treats or people food, and has been treated with chalky pills and digestion-helper powders by the vet. The vet now suggests blood work, but we are unsure if it's necessary. Could changing his diet help, and is the blood work necessary?
