I have a 20 lb American Cocker Spaniel named Polly, approximately 4 1/2 years old, who has been treated for severe diarrhea with metronidazole and amoxicillin and is near the end of her 5-day treatment. She is responding well but has recently started licking her rear in a near frenzied manner. I have given her a 20 mg pill of Benadryl with no relief and have gabapentin on hand. What could be causing this behavior and what suggestions do you have for relief?

My 2-year-old Pit Bull, Lucy, adopted from a shelter 3 weeks ago, has been experiencing deep congestion and wheezing every hour or two. She was diagnosed with Kennel Cough and completed an antibiotic regimen. I gave her a 25 mg tablet of Benadryl, and I plan to pick up more antibiotics tomorrow.
