I have a 7-month-old male Cavalier and am considering getting his brother or sister. Should I choose a female or male, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Additionally, when should I neuter two males, and will neutering prevent them from marking their territory inside the flat?

My 16-year-old female Italian Greyhound has significant arthritis in her back, hips, and legs. She started on Rimadyl two weeks ago but became increasingly finicky about her food and showed no improvement. Yesterday, she refused to eat or leave her bed, her walk was stiff and uncertain. The veterinarian at the ER performed abdominal ultrasounds, checked her heart, BP, and blood panel, all of which were within normal range. She was sent home with Gabapentin, discontinued Rimadyl, and given SQ fluids. She felt somewhat better when she got home, but this morning she was drowsy, uncoordinated, and refusing to eat. Can you think of anything we're missing?
