My 8-month-old German Shepherd/Lab mix woke up in a terrified state, whining and crying as if in great pain when touched. This behavior is extremely abnormal for him as he is usually very affectionate and follows me around constantly. He is now scared of our room, where he has always felt safe, and is moping around, with glossy eyes and slightly more salivation than normal. He ate and drank normally but is visibly scared and anxious. What could have caused this sudden change in behavior and what should I do to help him?

I have an 8-year-old greyhound named Boots. She has had left eye drainage for a couple of weeks, which has tinged her white facial hair.
