Is prepaying vet care cost effective? I want to make sure that when my new dog needs routine care, I have money set aside for it. My vet offers a monthly plan for $49 that covers routine care: shots, appointments, fecal, heartworm, etc. I was wondering what the average price of vetting a healthy dog is, and if this is a good choice financially or would an insurance plan make more sense. I’m not sure how insurance plans work, if I pay first and get the money back or if the vets bill them.
