My 14-year-old pug mix, Max, has been coughing occasionally for about 3 months, which ends with a gag-like sound. The cough is not constant, and he is breathing fine, eating well, and active. He has been using Homeopet cough drops, which seem to help but the cough persists occasionally. What could be causing this cough, and what should I do next?
