My 9-year-old retriever has started showing early morning joint stiffness. He is a large dog, approximately 115 lbs, but not obese. His joints seem to limber up over the course of walking or as the day progresses. I think he might have sprained one ankle recently on ice. I am interested in treating his pain with an anti-inflammatory. Light research suggests aspirin is okay but to avoid Motrin. I would like to feel more confident before treating and would like advice. Also, I am wondering if glucosamine is effective for age-related arthritis.

I got my dog from the Humane Society over a year and a half ago. She's a medium-sized, three-year-old mixed breed with a great appetite and is pretty active. Recently, her fur color has been changing from jet black to brown in certain areas of her coat, and she has irregular urination habits, sometimes going up to 13 hours without peeing despite having chances to go outside. She's also been less active and seems depressed at times, though she can still be inspired to play and run. What might be wrong with her, and what should I do?

My beagle presented with Cushing's-like symptoms but didn't conclusively test for Cushing's. Our vet put her on 20mg of trilostane daily for 20lbs of body weight. She became extremely lethargic, weak, and hypothermic after a week on the medication. We took her to the vet where she died, presenting with an Addisonian crisis. An autopsy revealed hyperadrenocorticism and an Addisonian crisis. Should her cortisol levels have been tested sooner, especially since she didn't present with classic Cushing's symptoms?
