My 2-year-old yellow lab, Quin, has been guarding her tail and tucking it between her legs since today. She went duck hunting this morning and showed no signs of injury then, but when we got home, my wife noticed the behavior. There is ruffled hair around the area of concern, but no obvious swelling or bleeding. She doesn't want to walk and prefers to lay down.
