My 10-year-old cocker spaniel, Honey, has briny black specks on her skin that resemble roach droppings. They are not flea eggs as they aren't hatching and turning into fleas. She lives outside with good shelter and is clean, but I have bathed her in Dawn dishwashing liquid with no change. She recently started taking Apoquel for allergies, but the specks were present before. What could these specks be and how can I address this issue?

Our vet previously prescribed gabapentin, and today another vet prescribed an opioid at the end of her life. Can we use both medications together, and is the dose for the opioid too high?
