My dog, a 3-year-old neutered Golden Retriever, was x-rayed 6 days ago and catheterized to release urinary retention. He is on phenoxybenzamine and myotonin to help relax the urinary bladder and sphincter. He has suddenly become painful and is dripping blood. The emergency vet suggested a bladder infection. He was left doubly incontinent following a spinal injury in Bosnia, and recent x-rays showed no bladder stones or crystals in the urinary system. What could be causing his symptoms and what should be done?

My 14-year-old Schnauzer, Junior, has been experiencing ataxia due to vestibular syndrome for the past 2 months. Symptoms come and go, with periods of normalcy followed by ataxia. Junior has lost his appetite and sometimes has minor issues with pooing during ataxia episodes. He has undergone CT, blood tests, and MRI, all of which showed no signs of stroke or tumor. What can be done to manage this condition, and is there any medication that can help?

My dog, Amos, a 9-year-old Small Munsterlander, has had TPLO surgery on both knees and now shows bone spurs on his right knee. He leans to the left when standing, adjusts his right leg often, tires quickly, and has less muscle on that leg. My vet advises arthroscopic surgery to remove the spurs. Will this surgery restore him to his previous condition, and is there anything else the veterinarian should be aware of?

How can I tell if my female dog, Piper, has a bladder infection, given that she rarely urinates and we are finding quarter-sized spots on the carpeting that could be urine or drool?

My 75 lb lab has been on 40mg prednisone for 5 days for spondylosis. Along with other meds, she has dramatically improved and is now tapering off the prednisone. She is now down to 20 mg a day for 5 days, then the vet wants her to go to 20mg every other day for 5 days and then stop. Wouldn't it be better for her to go from 20mg every day to 10mg for a few days and then 10mg every other day? Or does it matter?

Our 11-year-old Westie, Memphis, has prostate cancer and was diagnosed almost a year ago. Recently, he has been having trouble holding his urine and sometimes doesn't drink water. He also doesn't play much and just lays around. Is he going to continue to get worse, and is it time to make a decision about his care? Additionally, why should we wait for him to be in pain before considering further action, and is he showing signs now that it is getting close to that point?
