Our six-year-old mixed breed male dog has recently started snapping at our hands when we pet him, especially at night but sometimes in the morning. He has always loved being pet and rubbed, often turning on his back to be rubbed on his belly. We have had a lot of disruption in the last month, including family visits, a trip to Atlanta for a wedding, and kitchen renovations. He is naturally a fearful dog but covers it by barking.
