I have a 1-year-old pitbull with a hard lump on his belly that has developed a hole and is draining. What could this be and what should I do?

My 6-year-old male dog had diarrhea last week, and since then, he doesn't seem quite himself. He's been eating and drinking normally but has been itching, and I've noticed redness just below his bottom. He's also walking and sitting differently and has been in bed all day. What could be causing this, and how long should I wait before taking him to a vet? Is there anything I might try at home first?
