Our 15-year-old dachshund, Ember, woke us up moaning and was found lying on the floor with her head extended in an unusual way in her vomit. She was unable to move her head and only moaned. She is currently at the vet on IV, having been on pain meds and gabapentin for a few weeks. Ember is deaf and has poor eyesight. We are considering euthanasia due to her declining condition, but my wife is reluctant. What is the prognosis for Ember, and is it possible for her to improve?
