My dog, Penny, who is an 8-9 year old Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix, has been biting at her back legs and back, scratching at her sides, and licking her bum. She seems very irritated and uncomfortable. What could be causing this behavior and what can I do to help her?

My 7-year-old Bloodhound, Ruby, generally sheds all year. Recently, I noticed 2 patches of loose hair which I pulled out, leaving dry patches of skin underneath. She will get a bath tomorrow. Ruby almost died 4 years ago due to an unknown cause, possibly a reaction to a tick bite. She has ear problems and food allergies. What should I be aware of and what steps should I take regarding her skin condition?
