I have a 10-year-old dog who has lost motor function in his left hind leg, and I can't afford the expensive veterinary neurologist recommended by my vet. Is there an organization that can help me pay for this care, or should I continue looking online for financial assistance? If I can't afford the neurologist, should I consider having the vet amputate the leg to prevent further pain for my dog?

My dog has cancer and has been on prednisone for 3 months. For two of those months, he has had panting and labored breathing that the vets don't seem to know why. The prednisone is supposed to help with inflammation and slow the growth of the tumor, but he was on rimadyl before and seemed to do well. He pants fast and has labored breathing. They started him on 15mg every 12 hours then dropped the night dose, and later put him back on 15mg every 12 hours. I have an appointment to have him put to sleep due to the breathing issue. Would it be possible to slowly decrease the prednisone to maybe 10mg every twelve hours?
