Our 40-pound ten-year-old Sussex Spaniel named Lucy ate something in the street and developed mild diarrhea that persisted despite treatment with an over-the-counter pre- and pro-biotic. The vet prescribed 500 mg Metronidazole to be given once a day. However, Lucy had profuse diarrhea again in the middle of the night, so I gave her the Metronidazole pill at 5 am. She had a fairly normal bowel movement at 5 pm, but I'm wondering if it would be OK to give her another 500 mg Metronidazole pill for today to double the dose. Is it safe to do so?
