Our retriever was operated on 18 days ago to remove a 2-inch piece of steel shaped like a needle near the liver. Since then, her condition has deteriorated. She refuses to eat her normal dry food, only consumes a little mashed chicken occasionally, vomits a yellow substance, has a cough, and is so weak she can hardly walk. Our vet who performed the operation does not know what the problem is and is now suggesting an MRI scan. What do you suggest?

My dog, a Maltese mix, occasionally coughs and hacks as if something is stuck in her throat, but nothing comes out. This has been going on for a couple of months, not every day, but it's starting to happen more frequently. She has no nasal discharge. I haven't been able to afford her shots. What could be causing this and what can I do to help her?
