I would like some information on doctor-prescribed liquid protein diets. I am in the approval process for lap band surgery and would like to avoid it. I understand there is a 2-week pre-op and 3-week post-op liquid diet, often a prescription protein drink called Optifast. I have 75 lbs to lose and am considering postponing surgery to go on a doctor-supervised liquid protein diet for 5 weeks. I suffer from bipolar, almost all depression, and need something concrete to motivate me. What is your take on this? Would it make sense to go on a doctor-supervised 5-week liquid protein diet?
