I am a 56-year-old post-menopausal woman who has experienced significant stress over the past 18 months, including divorce, a move, retirement, and the death of my father. I have been drinking about 3/4 to one full bottle of wine daily to cope with the pain. My father was diabetic, and I have had two babies weighing over 9 pounds. My weight is about 20 pounds more than ideal, but I can still wear a size 10. Six months ago, I began getting hives, which are sometimes severe and almost always symmetrical. Topical and oral Benadryl usually worked. I eliminated various foods from my diet, thinking it was an allergic reaction, but nothing changed. I also experienced sensitive teeth/gums, heart palpitations and skipped beats, debilitating heartburn, and arthritic symptoms. After researching, I suspected systemic cytosis and stopped all alcohol and caffeine intake three weeks ago. Symptoms have subsided but not entirely. I am currently on a three-week herbal colon/liver cleanse. I am experiencing general malaise, excessive sleep, and low motivation. I am going to check my urine for pre-diabetes concerns. My appetite/weight has not changed much, and I take 50ml Zoloft with no other medications. My blood pressure is 100/70, and I am otherwise in great health. I have an HMO and find it challenging to get attention for vague symptoms. What insights can you provide?
