I am the only offspring of two sickly elderly parents. I am single and they both live in my home. I am being forced to leave my job of 24 years to stay home and take care of them. My mother is paraplegic and has many other health-related issues, and my father has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. My mother is entitled to 2 hours of in-home care by the Office of the Aging, and my dad is entitled to 1 hour. Can I leave my job and receive some kind of assistance from the government to take care of my parents? 3 hours a day is unsafe, and they are alone for 6 hours while I am at work. I take care of most of their needs while I am here, but I can't work while they are home and unsafe. Can you tell me what my options are? I am willing to stay home and take care of them, but I do need some small income and health insurance if I leave my employer.
