I have been prescribed metronidazole for my IBS and I am unsure about the duration of the treatment and its effects. The doctor said to take it every 8 hours (3 times a day). I think he mentioned 5 days, but I'm not sure. Additionally, I would like to know why this medicine was prescribed and if it can eliminate the bacteria causing my IBS symptoms. I also have questions about using Nexium with metronidazole due to concerns about the antibiotics being rough on the stomach.
