I am using Travatan eye drops in both eyes as prescribed by my doctor, and both of my eyes have become bloodshot red. Is this normal?

My son was diagnosed with Mono yesterday. After being taken off antibiotics and steroids, he was put on hydrocodone-homatropine syrup. This morning, he woke up with his left eyelid swollen and feeling like there's fluid in it. Does this require another visit to the ER, or is it a side effect or symptom of mono or possibly the medications?
