My 79-year-old father has a previous heart condition and has deteriorated to the point where he is not a surgical candidate. Due to a severe stroke in 2005, he was taken off coumadin and now refuses to see any doctor, fearing hospital admission. His blood pressure readings have become unstable, ranging from 70/48 to 148/90, and he is physically weak, sleeping most of the time, with increased confusion. What should our next step be? Are these readings an indication of something serious?
