I received a 3-day notice on July 3rd. Do I have 5 days to respond to the notice, and do I count the day I was served, holidays, and weekends? Should I respond directly to the landlord's lawyer or file a response in court? If court, what court and department do I file? Is it advisable to talk directly to the landlord's lawyer or be represented by my own counsel? Do I need to fill out a specific document to respond, is there a fee, and will there be a hearing before a judge? If I file a response, what should I expect next? If I do not contest owing rent but need time due to being laid off, would the court be accommodating in giving an extension?
