I helped a website owner upgrade her website and was given full access to the website and database. After a few weeks, she sold the website to a company, and I received an email from a lawyer demanding I delete all the data as it is owned by the new company. Since I was not part of the negotiation and did not agree to anything, do I technically need to remove the data, or is it my right to hold onto it for however long I want?

I have agreed to settle an old credit card bill because they are taking me to court. I am disabled and do not want to face the court system so I settled. A friend is going to write a check to the Law Firm that is handling the case as per the letter they sent me. My question is what should I write in the memo section or on the back to be sure that this will be the only check I will be sending and this pays this in full.
