How involved is a social worker from APS allowed to get and what is considered unethical behavior by them? My aunt, who lives independently in a luxury condo building, has some dementia but is otherwise fully functional. A social worker from APS has been very aggressive in calling and putting pressure on the homecare agency, despite the fact that a homecare agency has been put in place and my aunt will receive an aide a few times a week. The social worker is also suggesting more hours of care than necessary and is misleading about my aunt's condition. I have been told that there have been cases in which APS social workers have unethically used tactics with elders who live in more luxury buildings, potentially to become a guardian and make decisions as they see fit. Is it up to an elder's family members to decide the amount of care the elder should have, and not the APS social worker? How should I respond to the social worker's pressure for more hours of care for my aunt?
