I am a 61-year-old disabled retiree with various health issues, including bipolar disorder, major depression, seizures, and brain tumors. I have been swindled out of $220,892.64 by a self-publishing firm, Xlibris, which may not have performed the services I paid for. I suspect they overbilled me by approximately $13,000.00. I saw a psychotherapist for ten years due to an abusive and traumatic childhood. After terminating therapy, I discovered she published a 'fictional' novel containing scenarios from my personal history. While she didn't use my name, I'm disturbed that she used my trauma for her own gain. Do I have any private legal recourse or any recourse at all?
