I am being sued by my old landlord for rent payments on a property he no longer owns. The complaint indicates 6 months of rent are due, but I have a cancelled check for the first month in question, paid a month in advance and a month security for the next two months, and the property went to Deed in Lieu of foreclosure on 03/25/2015. My questions are: 1. If the deed is signed and dated 03/25, could he still continue to collect rent after that? 2. Should I include the issues in my response to the complaint or should I file a counterclaim?
