I am in the process of negotiating a settlement with the defendant. My lawyer has sent out the discovery to the defendant. I told the defendant no need to answer the discovery and notified my lawyer to put the case on hold and do not incur any charges until further notice. My lawyer continued to send me bills for the following charges without my authorization. Are these valid charges? 1. A telephone conference regarding the defendant's request for extension to respond to discovery. 2. Preparation of Case Management Conference statement. 3. Review of the Court's tentative ruling regarding the Case Management Conference. Additionally, what is the minimum cost to hold or delay the case without dismissing it, and what other possible attorney fees may incur if I do not dismiss the case while negotiating a settlement with the defendant myself?

My Dad is not listed as the father on my birth certificate, but he wants me to change my last name to his. What documentation would I need from him to change my surname to his, and what steps should I take to do so in Texas?

My mother is terminal and I need to figure out if she needs a regular power of attorney or a durable power of attorney. We are in Washington State and I need to download the correct legal document from the internet due to financial constraints. I am also confused about whether a durable power of attorney covers both medical and financial decisions, and if it remains effective when she is incapacitated.

I need the name and citation number of the California appellate decision from around 1976-1978 involving a private adoption case where the court ordered an attorney to be appointed for the child, a first impression case. The decision specifically mentions Kenneth Briggs, Deputy County Counsel, in a derogatory manner.

I'm being sued by the buyer of our house that was sold in October 2018 for a contract dispute. The buyer is suing for $6k due to damages from a leak that occurred after they moved in, claiming we concealed the issue. We previously gave them a $10k price reduction to address potential issues. What is the best ground to countersue, and is it worth fighting this lawsuit?
