I got a ticket for an expired dog license in Redondo Beach, CA. I completely forgot about it due to working 6 days a week, and I mistakenly thought the court date was 8/19/11 instead of 8/09/11. On the 12th, officers came to my home and arrested me, giving me a new court date of 9/7/2011. I went to court to try to get an earlier date and was given 8/22/11. I am scared and considering getting a public defender. What is the worst that could happen? Can they send me to jail for this? I work at the airport with customs clearance and can't afford this on my record. Will the judge consider my reasons for missing the court date?

I saw a psychotherapist for ten years due to an abusive and traumatic childhood. After terminating therapy, I discovered she published a 'fictional' novel containing scenarios from my personal history. While she didn't use my name, I'm disturbed that she used my trauma for her own gain. Do I have any private legal recourse or any recourse at all?
