I had my name changed in 1977 in Hawaii through the Lieutenant Governor's office, but California won't accept the papers because they weren't signed by a judge. Can I get a birth certificate now that I have used this name for over 30 years? Social Security accepted the name change in 1977.

My husband pays child support for 2 kids, with the paperwork filed in Illinois. His ex now lives in Arkansas, and we live in Colorado. His son has lived with us in Colorado since October 2016, but he continues to pay support for both children, including back support from periods he wasn't working. We have had issues with his son and contacted his ex about him moving back to Arkansas. We were then informed about an open investigation regarding my stepson and possible rape of his half-brother, who is 6. His ex wants to take him back to court to receive more support for just one child. What should we do?

I was involved in a car accident in California where I was hit from behind while making a legal turn on a rainy day. I followed my insurance company's advice and declined to seek compensation, but the other party is now making a claim against me. I don't want to get involved in any legal action and am worried about being sued. What should I do to protect myself and de-escalate the situation?
