I hired a lawyer on a flat fee contract and paid him $2,000 upfront with a balance of $8,000. I fired him because he didn't have my best interests in mind. He is suing me for the remaining balance. Do I owe him the balance if I fired him, and how do I proceed if the case is just in the beginning stages?

The company union contract for employees hired under an old contract states that they do not have to travel between locations, unlike new employees. Some locations are more than 60 miles from home and travel is not compensated. One employee under the old contract only travels to a store close to her home, placing the burden of traveling greater distances on others. My thoughts are that once she is willing to go to any store regardless of the distance, that should void her old contract and she should be required to travel to other stores as well, to make travel more fair to the rest of us. Is this considered unfair labor practices?

If I gave a washer and dryer to somebody and they stole my landlord's dolly when they came to pick it up, am I responsible to replace the stolen dolly? I wasn't even in the same state when it happened. Additionally, can a landlord hold my security deposit for any amount of time, especially if they believe it's related to this dolly incident? What are some laws regarding security deposits?
