I need help drafting a Letter of Financial Responsibility for my college son who is renting an apartment in Berkeley, CA with two other students. I want to be responsible only for his portion of the rent, not the entire amount. I have a draft letter and the standard co-signer agreement from the leasing company. What should be included in the letter to limit my liability to only my son's share of the rent?

My boyfriend’s stepdaughter intercepted one of his checks for $13,000 and deposited the check into her own personal account without his permission. She is claiming that the money should be hers as he lived with her for 3 years. They didn’t have anything in writing regarding what bills each of them paid or how he was responsible for babysitting and transporting her children to and from school. He had agreed verbally to pay $400 a month for living expenses while he lived with her in her house. How should he move forward to pursuing this issue and claiming the $13,000?
