I rent a house and the neighbor cut my apple tree without permission, leaving it looking like a stick in my yard. The tree was on my property but some branches were over his property. He would have had to come onto my property to do the cutting. What are my options?

The principal now wants to call this an on-campus matter, disregarding the police's opinion.
