I trusted my contractor, who I believed was a friend, to handle the remodeling of my engine and purchase materials. I gave him over $7000 for these purposes, but I later discovered he never ordered the materials and used the money for himself. He admitted to scamming me due to his financial needs. I never asked for receipts because I trusted him, and he manipulated my feelings by claiming he wasn't charging for his labor to help me. I am a single mother with a severely disabled child and another younger child. I am located in Massachusetts and want to know what criminal charges can be filed against him, and if I can sue for emotional distress and mental anguish caused by his deception. I also want to understand the legal steps to take for a civil settlement under the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act.
