My daughter got money from a check advance place, but she did not sign the checks or the contract; they did it for her. When she was ready to pay, she put the money in an envelope and slipped it under the door. Can they garnish her wages, and if they go to court, does she have to be there, and should she inform the judge that she did not sign the contract or the check?

I paid an attorney $4,000 in July 2018 for services that were never rendered. The attorney is now refusing to refund the payment, claiming it was non-refundable only after I requested a refund. I am in Maine and had one meeting with him in July, during which he reviewed my existing divorce decree. I later informed him that my ex-husband and I had come to an agreement, so I no longer needed his services and requested a refund, less the cost of the meeting. The attorney stated the fee was non-refundable. What legal steps can I take to recover my payment?

We paid an organization to train a service dog, but the dog is untrained in basic obedience and does not perform tasks, and its personality does not suit a service dog. We have had the dog assessed by another trainer who confirmed it could not pass the Canine Good Citizen test or the Public Access test. We informed the original trainer/organization and requested a return and refund, but the organization has closed and refused to address the issue. We are in North Carolina and have a written contract. Is there anything we can do to get recompensated, and would this be considered a breach of contract or fraud?

Prior to marriage, I purchased a home in NC and put down a 106k payment. After getting married, I refinanced the home and added my wife to the mortgage. We are now ending the marriage. Am I entitled to getting my down payment back plus 50% of the proceeds from the sale?

My brother, who never married and is in a nursing home in New York, developed a foot infection that led to the loss of his leg above the knee. The nursing home's job was to take care of his foot, but they were slow in taking him to the hospital. He is now in the hospital and not returning to the same nursing care facility.
