If my insurance policy doesn't have a time limit on turning in our contents claim, how long does the state guidelines suggest and can they cut it off then? The insurance company is telling us that we only have until Dec. 31st 2012 to turn in all our contents claim. Wouldn't it start from the time we settled?

I recently purchased a third-floor condo in a gated community in College Point, New York, and decided to inquire about installing a stair lift. I contracted with Gem Restoration Services, gave them a $14,000 deposit, and later discovered that the stair lift would not meet the required egress law and would not be approved by the Board. The contract states that the order cannot be canceled once placed and the first payment is to be fully retained by Gem if the installation is stopped by the purchaser. Since I was not informed of the law at the time of the contract, am I liable to lose this money, and what are my options?

I was admitted to a hospital in May for a Pulmonary Embolism and diagnosed with pneumonia. The hospital sent me to another hospital for a CT scan, which was misread and did not show a mild stroke. I was not informed of this until recently when a neurologist diagnosed me. I was still taking a medication that could have induced another stroke. What should I do about the hospital and the misread CT scan?

Concerning Home Owners Associations, are the meetings private and not under the Open Records Act? We are having a disagreement with the builder who is not building our new home to the specs laid in the elevation we chose. The builder claims the HOA has changed the specs and that meetings are private, preventing us from attending to state our case. What are our options?
