In Minnesota, my father was in a nursing home for almost 4 years; fifteen years ago. It was said (without documentation) that they could put a lien on the house and be entitled to half the house at the time of my mother's death. My mom passed away in January, and now the house is on the market for around $89,000 and in probate. We found that my father owed $89,000, so they are saying we owe the whole amount. Is this correct? Does that mean my mom does not get any value of the house?

My husband and I joined a debt settlement company (CAG) about a year ago. We have been paying $250.00 a month, but they claim we only have $900.00 with them, while we believe we have paid $3000.00. We received letters stating that our creditors are going to start garnishing my husband's checks. We tried to contact CAG multiple times and were told that they cannot do anything until we have more money in our account. Another settlement company informed us that no debt settlement company can take their fees before settling a debt, yet CAG has been taking their fees. We want all our money back as they did nothing for us, but they said we would only get a part of what we paid. Can they do that, and what can we do?
