I have been contacted by two different firms for expert witness work on similar cases in San Francisco and a suburb. Firm 2 is listed as representing the plaintiff in Firm 1's case. If I haven't signed an agreement with Firm 1, can I work with Firm 2 on their case without a conflict of interest? Additionally, I have different engagement letters with different retainer amounts for each firm. Is this acceptable?
